A large inverted funnel could capture more and more oil emanating from a subsea well that erupted in the Gulf of Mexico, but this small sign of encouragement was offset on Sunday the government’s announcement that the crisis could last until fall.
According to information from the Associated Press, the funnel placed over the hole that spilled oil from the seabed is being tested to see if it can stop new oil spill.
The administrator of the Coast Guard, Thad Allen, who heads the government’s response to the crisis, said it reserved its opinion on the achievement, not wanting to feed false hopes.
Instead, he said during the television program “Face the Nation” from CBS that the battle to contain the spill will probably last until the autumn.
The cap placed now only part of the oil trap and containment wells being drilled will not be finished until August. Meanwhile, oil will continue rising.
The city of Austin, Texas joined the growing Arizona economic boycott in protest at that sate having enacted SB 1070 which authorizes the police to detain people who are regarded as illegal in the country.
The resolution, passed unanimously Thursday by members of the council, called to end business travel to Arizona unless they are related to a police investigation or to provide humanitarian aid to residents of Austin.
The resolution also asks the city manager to review all Austin businesses with investments in the state of Arizona to establish a plan for ending those relationships.
The council members agreed that the new law is discriminatory, so they do not want Austin employees at risk of being arrested during a business trip to Arizona.
Councilman Mike Martinez, who proposed the resolution, said that the measure calls for an end to business ties with the state of Arizona, not the companies located there.
Austin is the latest city to pass an economic boycott against Arizona, and joins the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland.
No Texan should be surprised about the accident by BP. Texas has been hit before by BP. In 2005 a refinery in Texas City exploded killing 15 people and injuring 170. Its clear this disaster will have more far reaching long term health negative effects on the state as a whole, especially those living on the Gulf of Mexico. In short stay alert about where the oil is making land fall.

Most Americans, including Texans feel overweight and out of shape and since the trend seems to be getting worse. At Texas Family Practice we encourage all of our patients to review how they live their loves. Are they eating right? Are they sleeping enough? Do they feel stressed? These are just some of the questions they should be asking.
We hope with proper preparation our patients and many others can prevent the kind of health problems that commonly affect families today.
